Dear Camilla

Dear Camilla

Dear Camilla, I wasn't sure I was meant to be a mum. Even once I was pregnant with you, I couldn't visualise the next stage. Then you arrived. I wasn't overcome with a maternal instinct like so many people said I would have. You didn't even feel like mine. I was anxious, excited and in disbelief. Fast forward a day or so and I started to realise you were actually mine, and I was actually yours. On day 3 we had a full day alone, and I started to really, truly bond with you. Fast forward a week or so...

Newborn Mama Advice Column

Newborn Mama Advice Column

By expert mum of 9 days, Eloise. Jokes! I've got nothing together. I'm crying a lot and have run out of clean undies today. But here's what I've learnt. Say Yes! You'll have offers from everyone to help. Postpartum isn't a time to let pride or ego get in the way. And don't feel like an inconvenience - the offer is there. And your answer is YES PLEASE! I've said yes to every single offer of food. My heart (and belly) is so grateful. Rest Rest and sleep when you can. Chances are your nights are looking more like a...

I'm in week 36 with less than 3 weeks to go!  I'm in a fair bit of pain and I'm super emotional, but I am going ok. Since starting this account I always promised myself I'd be honest and raw and speak many unspoken, often taboo, truths. This pregnancy has been no exception. One symptom eases up and another one takes over. I'm exhausted, sore and hormonal. But...

Caesareans - Not A Cop Out

When we think of birth, we think of babies coming out of vaginas – right!? My obstetrician told me that the ideal kind of birth is a straight-forward vaginal birth. And I agree.  But what happens when there’s complications? There are many options here – and caesarean section births are one of them. My obstetrician labelled c-sections as the second most favourable birth (with the most difficult births being a traumatic vaginal delivery and a long labour trying for a vaginal delivery that ends up with a caesarean – meaning the mother needs to recover from both labour and major...

MY TOP 3 // Pregnancy Must Haves

Maternity Tights I live in tights. Pretty much every day. So when my regular tights got too tight for my growing belly, I went straight to Active Truth because I love their non maternity products so much. The tights are fabulous. Even when they were relatively loose around my tiny bump - they stayed up. Now at 28 weeks they're still perfect, and there's room to grow! Hydralyte In early pregnancy, I couldn't get hydrated. I'd drink so much and the baby was obviously stealing it all for herself (greedy thing!). I'd only ever used hydralyte when I was sick or...
