Feminism - Not An Ugly Word

Feminism - Not An Ugly Word

Feminists, by definition, believe in equality. Last year I had some really interesting conversations on my Instagram stories about why people didn't identify as a feminist - and there was an overwhelming response about assumptions that feminists looked a certain way or acted a certain way, and they didn't tick those boxes and therefore believed they didn't identify as a feminist. Once we dug deeper - many of these people realised they were, in fact, feminists.  So let's chat about some assumptions. While some feminists are loud and proud and find themselves writing blogs and designing feminist t-shirts (haha), many...

Baby Led Weaning

Baby Led Weaning

Ok, before we begin. I'm no expert. I'm an early childhood teacher yes, but have limited experience with under 2s. This is simply what I've learnt from the research I've done and learnt "on the job" (as a mum to Camilla for 9 months and since starting food 3 months ago).  Having such a negative relationship with food most of my life, it was very important to me to give Camilla the best chance of a healthy food relationship from day one.  I did lots of research - Facebook forums, internet research and talking to friends who are mums and...

I Bloody Got My Period

I Bloody Got My Period

Last year I received some amazing stories from some beautiful followers about periods, and I knew I had to share. Well, this week I got my first period in about 16 months and I thought, "this is the bloody time".  Let's talk stats. I ran some period polls through my Instagram and only 35% said they felt prepared for their first period. Whether it was mental preparation or physical - that is something we can offer the next generation!! 42% said they told their mum, dad or carer when they first got their period. I fell in that 58% that...

Go Big And Go Home

Go Big And Go Home

5 years ago we bought a 2 acre block of land just out of town in Bowral. At the time we were planning a wedding and didn't want too much on our plate - so we put off starting the design process. In hindsight, oh that wonderful thing, we could've started straight away and not even been close to an overlap of wedding and house. We ended up using a local draftsman and private builder for our house. It took 2 years to build (including about 6 months where it was at a standstill at our instruction) and still has...

Dear Camilla

Dear Camilla

Dear Camilla, I wasn't sure I was meant to be a mum. Even once I was pregnant with you, I couldn't visualise the next stage. Then you arrived. I wasn't overcome with a maternal instinct like so many people said I would have. You didn't even feel like mine. I was anxious, excited and in disbelief. Fast forward a day or so and I started to realise you were actually mine, and I was actually yours. On day 3 we had a full day alone, and I started to really, truly bond with you. Fast forward a week or so...
